Hi, I am Dominic Tutty, owner of Chop IT Services. I grew up in Nelson, a small town in New Zealand’s South Island.

Since a young age, I have been fascinated by all things tech. Meccano, motors, early chemistry and electronic sets, lego, I loved it all. One thing leads to the next, I started tinkering with the family computer. At one point, I made it fail. It was a disaster for my mum since she had all her school work stored on it. Eventually, I made another computer fail, and I was able to recover it thanks to the knowledge all my tinkering had taught me.

After high school I completed a diploma with a training organisation called Spherion. After this intensive 12-month course, I landed my first paid job at EDS (Electronic Data Systems) in Auckland as a Helpdesk Analyst.

This cemented by skills in customer service desktop support and IT training. During this time, I had also started getting interested in entrepreneurship and developed websites and built a music recording studio in my hours outside of work. 

During my OE I lived and worked in London England for 2 years. I had IT roles in training and desktop support. Stopping off in SE Asian countries and traveling around Europe during this time was the start of wanderlust which would see me eventually travel to over 15 countries.

During this time overseas I worked freelance for companies in Auckland NZ. Doing IT support, web development and digital marketing using Google Ads and SEO (search engine optimisation). This is when I realised that I could provide the same outstanding service to my clients remotely.

When I returned to New Zealand in 2013, my story of running an IT business from abroad caught the attention of Reseller News, the source for IT industry news in New Zealand. I was interviewed and they featured my story on their magazine. You can read the whole article here. It is rather entertaining. 

And so we come to now. I have worked in large and small scale businesses, I have had a business partner and hired contractors. Throughout my experiences, I realised that being a sole consultant is what I enjoy most. The only people I am accountable to are my customers, and I can provide them with outstanding personalised service.
